University Health Services is pleased to resume massage services.

What is Therapeutic Massage?

Massage is a manual manipulation of the body’s soft tissue for the purpose of stimulating circulation and promoting relaxation. It has been used in many world cultures for more than 4,000 years. Massage allows you a quiet time to focus on yourself and become more connected to your body. Massage is generally used for the reduction of stress and pain. It has been shown to boost the immune system as well. Since most diseases are exacerbated by stress, massage can help you become and stay healthier.

Massage can help with the following:

  • stress reduction
  • anxiety
  • relaxation
  • muscle aches and pains
  • sleep problems
  • depression
  • immune system function
  • sports conditioning

At UHS we offer Swedish, deep tissue, myofascial, and pregnancy massage. The therapist may combine several different techniques during the massage depending on what is most beneficial and appropriate for each client.

What can I expect during my massage?

Before your massage, the massage therapist will gather information about you, such as any allergies, recent surgeries, illnesses, or accidents, whether you are pregnant, what medications you are taking, if you have had a massage before, the type of massage, and how long ago it was.

After the initial assessment, you will have a few minutes to yourself in the room to get onto the massage table. The massage therapist will leave the room so you may have privacy. At this point, you may get undressed, taking off only the amount of clothing that you are comfortable with. There will be space provided for your personal items and clothing.

During the session, the massage therapist will check with you about the pressure of the strokes. Feel free to speak up at any time. We want you to be sure you get the most out of your time with us.

How much does it cost?

For a half-hour session: $30

For a one-hour session: $60

Please note: If you have the student health insurance plan, the massage therapy is covered. There is a $20 co-pay and a limit on the total amount of sessions.

There is a $20 fee charged for missed appointments unless you have cancelled at least 24 hours before the scheduled time.
